5A perfect find...  Nov 17, 2009
My daughter, Arris, recently celebrated her 3rd birthday. Her Paw-paw insterted 50$ in her birthday card. I decided to purchase this easel with her birthday money. I also decided to purchase the Melissa & Doug Easel Companion Set. It came in in timely manner.
I was able to assemble the easel with out any help or any tools. My daughter enjoys it, she did some paintings through out the day. It kept her interested.

THe companion set comes with a roll of paper, 4 colors of paint(Red, Green, Blue & Yellow) along with four spill proof paint cups. They have covers in four different colors that matches the paint & the handles on the four brushes matched each colors too.
One side of the easel is a dry-erase board and the other is a chalk board. There comes just one dry-erase marker, one eraser and a chalk set of ten.
I enjoy the quality of the paper. I wouldn't mind using it myself for my own projects.

All in all, this is a great easel. You can adjust the board heights for the child. I am very satisfied with the easel and the companion set.

5Solid gift  Nov 16, 2009
We bought this over a year ago and it hasn't left our living room. The kids use it constantly. Instead of buying the extra rolls of paper, I should have bought a good set of white board markers for the white board on there.

5FANTASTIC PRODUCT!  Nov 11, 2009
We purchased this for our son who is three. It is very sturdy and easy to put together. Adjusting the height will be great as he grows. Melissa and Doug...another quality product!

4Sturdy, good height  Nov 09, 2009
Sturdy, good height. Once our 2 year old gets over eating the crayons, we'll be golden. But he likes standing up and drawing, and the all-wood structure seems durable.

1Good concept, Poor execution....you get what you pay for  Nov 06, 2009
I am a bargain shopper through and through. I am always looking for the best quality for the lowest price; So I was delighted to find that this cheap easel had so many positive reviews. Though I am somewhat skeptical of the quality of Melissa and Doug's products (I have had bad experiences with their quality in the past...) I decided to buy it anyways because of all the good reviews. Unfortunately, I wish I had gone with my gut instinct. I bought this easel for my grandkids to use when they visit me, but after the first go with the grandkids I had buyer's remorse. I will say that it was relatively easy to put together....something the older kids would probably have been able to do by themselves. But the quality all around was rather shoddy. The wood is lightweight and some of the screw holes seemed just slightly out of place like the wood had warped a little. The plastic trays were pretty thin compared to other easels I have used in the past. (I am a part-time art docent.) Regardless of the quality of the components though, I was determined to make sure my grandkids had a good time doing art.... But that only lead to more disappointments. The chalkboard doesn't seemed to be made out of the same material that normal chalkboards are made out of. I'm guessing it was replaced with a cheaper chalkboard alternative. I say this because both normal chalk and sidewalk chalk would not write on the board...they would only mark partially (kind of like a pen that is about to run out of ink). We did however get chalk markers to work on the chalkboard. But both the marks from the normal chalk and the marker chalk was very difficult to remove. The whiteboard offered little more in the function department. The dry erase markers had a difficult time wiping off if the drawings stayed on the board for longer than about 15 minutes...all of the markings left colorful little ghost lines even after they were erased. After a frustrating afternoon of trying to find writing devices that were compatible with the chalkboard and whiteboard, we decided the best use for this easel was just clip pieces of paper on either side so the grandkids could draw and paint.
In the end I wound up donating this easel to a local preschool and buying different one. The new one was a bit more expensive, but the quality of the new easel is light years ahead of the Melissa and Doug easel.
